Our Summer Curriculum

Welcome to year 5! This year we will be learning lots about forces, Rainbow Grammar, the Vikings and place value ready for year 6! Our PE days will be Tuesday and Thursday so please bring pumps or trainers on those days. We will be having a STEM afternoon on Wednesday afternoon when we learn about science, technology, engineering and maths. Later in the year, we will be competing in a Rolls Royce Engineering competition!
This term we are reading 'Out of This World" by Clive Gifford. It is a fantastic non-fiction book with every topic explained through pictures and text.

The topics range from the Big Bang theory and ways in which scientists think the universe might end, to what we know about distant planets and galaxies. Mind-boggling ideas about worm holes, dark matter and aliens will test the limits of even the most creative imagination.

During the half term we will be working very hard on our reading and writing. We will be writing our own descriptions of Earth, persuasive letters to NASA and we will even be writing our own science fiction narratives. We will be finding out about the different planets and the universe! Wow! What an exciting half term!‚Äč

Year 5 are getting ready for Year 6 this half term. We will be working extra hard so we are ready for the move. To finish off year 5, we are learning all about Bear Grylls. We are reading his book Gold of the Gods which is about a young boy looking for an ancient civilization in Columbia. We will be camping over at school and testing our survival skills! Let's hope we survive!
