Woodland Warrior's provides opportunities for children to enhance and enjoy learning outdoors. Each child experiences six to eight sessions in small groups and it runs twice weekly. The planned sessions cover wildlife, crafts, using and understanding the natural environment, learning hunts and campfire cooking. The children learn how to stay safe, individual skills and team building all in a fun way. Lessons from Geese provides a perfect example of the importance of team work and how it can have a profound and powerful effect on any form of personal or business endeavour. When we use these five principles in our personal and business life it will help us to foster and encourage a level of passion and energy in ourselves, as well as those who are our friends, associates or team members.

It is essential to remember that teamwork happens inside and outside of business life when it is continually nurtured and encouraged.

 

Lesson 1 - The Importance of Achieving Goals

As each goose flaps its wings it creates an UPLIFT for the birds that follow. By flying in a 'V' formation the whole flock adds 71 percent extra to the flying range.

Outcome - When we have a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each other to achieve our goals.

 

Lesson 2 - The Importance of Team Work

When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front.

Outcome - If we had as much sense as geese we would stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.

It is our responsibility to ensure that every child at Wyndham believes they have the ability to learn and the self assurance to solve problems and overcome difficulties. Together we must inspire and enthral, so that children develop a desire to learn that is borne out of the magic of discovery. Learning must be relevant so that children see a reason for new skills and knowledge and can celebrate the feeling of achievement gained from the new doors they can open and be proud of a job well done.

The Government’s Extended Services Initiative is intended to meet the needs of children, their families and the wider community. Schools are deemed to be at the heart of the community and are ideally placed to provide access to a range of opportunities, activities and support. Schools are not expected to provide or offer all services from their own sites but will endeavour to ensure that services are available locally. By 2010 every Primary school will be expected to offer access to the range of core services outlined below.  The information below outlines the “Core Offer” – there are five aspects to Extended Services

CORE OFFER 1 - QUALITY CHILDCARE
This should:

• Be OFSTED registered
• Be available all year from 8am-6pm

  • Breakfast Club provided daily (7:45am – 8:50am - £1 per child)
  • After School clubs most days
  • WASP (Wyndham After School Provision) (3:15pm – 5:30pm - £1.50 per child)

  • See the notice board and newsletters for more information about events during school holidays.

Schools and other agencies must:
• Act on LA guidance and have clear processes
• Have named individuals who manage referrals
• Work together on referrals

  • Paula Baines-Chambers and Suzannah Hemmings have had relevant training and are able to meet with parents who require information or support and able to refer or signpost to relevant agencies.
  • We work closely with agencies such as school nursing, the Education Welfare service, Social Services, Education Psychology

Why do we have a School Council?

The School Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

Who can be a member of the School's Council?

Each member of our School Council is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year after a short presentation explaining why they should be elected. School Council members need to be confident at speaking in front of others, and be a good role model for others in the school. School Council members will be ambassadors for our school. They may be asked to escort visitors around school or deliver presentations to visitors

What do we do?

Members of the Council take part in discussions about what we would like to improve in our school and also feed back any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council. The School Council are also responsible for monitoring safety in our school and regularly review anti-bullying initiatives.
