Based in the Foundation Stage Unit the Monsters University are Nursery age children aged 3 and 4 who attend 3 hour sessions daily, either in a morning or an afternoon.

Following the New EYFS they learn through play supported by Mr Simpson the Class Teacher. We also work closely with the FS2 classes building our social skills, accessing new challenges and supporting a smooth transition from FS1 to FS2.

We plan exciting activities based on the children’s interests, making the most of our indoor and outdoor environments.

During Autumn Term 1, we went on a learning journey about Harvest and Autumn.  We used the books 'Oliver's Vegetables' and 'The Enormous Turnip' to learn about Harvest.  We planted winter vegetables, made vegetable soup, printed with vegetables, acted out the story and even sang a song about a bean during the Harvest Festival.  We then started our Autumn topic off with a trip to Elvaston Castle looking at signs of Autumn and collecting 'Autumn Finds' to make a picture with.  We finished the first half term off learning about Diwali the Hindu Festival of Light.  Mr Sateesh came in to school to talk to us about how he celebrates Diwali, we made rangoli patterns in the garden, we sampled a selection of indian foods, we made Divas and read a story about Rama and Sita.  It was an action packed half term.

During Autumn Term 2, we enjoyed learning about 'The 5th of November' before moving on to our Pirate topic.  We learnt about what it was like to be a pirate.  We enjoyed a pirate puppet show and then made our own pirate puppets.  We made our own treasure maps to find 'X' and counted the treasure we found.  We made pirate ships and had a Pirate Party.  We then moved on to a Christmas topic, where we learnt about Christmas and performed 'Shine Star Shine' to parents.  We finished a very busy half term with a GREAT Winter Wonderland day where we were joined by Santa, his Reindeers, snow and enjoyed marshmallows around the campfire.
